The intent of the Atlantic Indigenous Games (AIG) is to create four teams, one from each province in a tournament similar to the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) offering roughly the same sports as NAIG. Each province will make up a team for the sport and play the other provinces to see who comes out on top. The AIG are held the year prior the North American Indigenous Games in one of the four Atlantic provinces. Further, this serves as a trainings opportunity for the athletes that will be heading to represent their province at NAIG the following year.
